Roman Tarraco

In 2000 Altafulla was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in view of the Roman villa of Els Munts and is a member of the Consortium of the Tourism Competitiveness Plan of Roman Tarraco (comprising the councils of Tarragona, Altafulla, Constantí and Roda de Barà).

Around the great Roman city of Tarraco numerous settlements were founded to concentrate on farming and leisure activities. One of these was the Roman villa of Els Munts in Altafulla, lying very close to the beach and dating back to the first century AD.
