Altafulla is divided into three main population hubs: Altafulla (centre), where most of the year-round residents live; Altafulla (beach), and the maritime district, made up of numerous apartments for summer use by tourists, and the Brises del Mar district to the north of the town, with access via the road from Torredembarra to La Riera de Gaià. The town centre and the beach area are separated by the avenue of Marquès de Tamarit, the former N-340 highway (which has now been diverted to a bypass running to the north of the town) and the RENFE railway line, with a station at Altafulla-Tamarit. The municipal census of 2011 showed a population of 4,776 inhabitants.
